Seminar on Speech Acts and Fiction

We are pleased to announce the Seminar on Speech Acts and Fiction, that will be held at the University of Genoa, on November 8th-10th, 2018. The seminar will be divided in two parts, corresponding to the two topics: speech acts and fiction. For each topic, there will be a lecture by Manuel García-Carpintero followed by a commentary by François Recanati, and a lecture by François Recanati followed by a commentary by Manuel García-Carpintero. There will be also space for 8-10 for short presentations by Ph.D. students. Possible topics include (but are not limited to):

– speech acts and assertion;

– content and assertion;

– locutionary and illocutionary aspects of what is said;

– what is said, what is meant, and what is implicated;

– theories of truth in fiction;

– assertions in fiction;

– fictional entities;

– names of fictional entities.

Instructions for abstract’s submission

Abstracts (500-800 words, in .doc format, references not included) should be sent to by August 20th, 2018. Notifications of acceptance will be sent by September 10th, 2018. Accepted speakers will be provided with an accommodation.
